Which PSU is better for a 4090, the Corsair RM1000x or the Seasonic Vertex GX-1000? Im super stressed about the cables melting and need to finish this build by Sunday. Budget is around $220 max. The Corsair is reliable but the Seasonic has that native cable and i dont want to mess with adapters...

I have been using the Seasonic Vertex GX-1000 1000W 80+ Gold ATX 3.0 in my main workstation for a while now and I am very satisfied with the stability. Since you are specifically worried about the 12VHPWR connection, going with a native ATX 3.0 power supply is definitely the safest route. I found that the native cable provided by Seasonic fits very securely compared to the standard adapters, which helps minimize any risk of poor contact or overheating. The Corsair RM1000x 1000W 80+ Gold is an excellent, reliable unit, but dealing with adapters in a tight timeframe can be stressful. Honestly, having that single direct cable from the PSU to the GPU makes the build process much cleaner. I dont have any complaints about the noise or performance so far. It fits well within your $220 budget and its a solid, professional choice for a 4090 build.

To add to the point above: I had the same melting fear when I finally snagged my 4090. I ended up going with the be quiet! Pure Power 12 M 1000W 80+ Gold ATX 3.0 after reading a bunch of safety reports. The native cable clicks in really tight, so you dont have to worry about adapters. It basically just works and hasnt given me any trouble during long gaming sessions. Its a solid, reliable choice for that budget.

@Reply #1 - good point! Native cables are a total lifesaver for the 4090. Quick question tho, what case are you using for the build? Space for cable management is key when you're dealing with these thicker wires. Im really satisfied with the MSI MPG A1000G PCIE5 1000W 80+ Gold ATX 3.0. It has worked perfectly for my setup:

  • native 12VHPWR cable included
  • compact size for easier routing
  • fits well under your $220 budget It handles power spikes no problem and basically stays silent. No complaints here.
