Which PSU should I actually pull the trigger on for my new 4090 setup? I'm stuck between the Corsair RM1000e and the Seasonic Vertex GX-1000 and honestly I need to order this within the next few hours if I want it delivered by Friday for my weekend build session.

I just spent a fortune on the i9-14900K and the 4090 so I'm trying to keep the PSU under $200 if possible but I don't want to cheap out and fry my whole rig obviously. I'm building in a Lian Li O11 and space is a bit tight with all the fans I'm planning to shove in there. I'm over in Chicago so I have a Microcenter nearby too if that changes anything but I'd rather just order online and save the trip. The Corsair is cheaper and available right now but I've been reading some horror stories on Reddit about coil whine and loud fans on the 'e' series lately which kinda scares me.

The Seasonic seems more premium and has that native 12VHPWR cable which would make the build way cleaner than using those messy adapters. My main priorities are:

  • stability for high power spikes
  • quiet fan operation
  • easy cable management

Is the Seasonic worth the extra $40 or so? Or maybe there's a Be Quiet! unit I'm overlooking? Just need to know which one is more reliable for those crazy transient spikes the 40 series is known for...

In my experience, the Seasonic Vertex GX-1000 80+ Gold ATX 3.0 is worth the extra cash over the RM1000e. Those Corsair e-series units use cheaper capacitors which is likely causing that coil whine you're worried about.

  • Native 12VHPWR cable handles 600W easily
  • Better transient response for 4090 power spikes
  • 10-year warranty is clutch I've tried many PSUs and Seasonic's voltage regulation is just way more stable for high-end rigs.

Regarding what #1 said about "In my experience, the Seasonic Vertex GX-1000 80+..."

  • I gotta politely disagree based on my last few monster builds! I was in your exact shoes with a tight O11 case and a 14900K, and honestly, while Seasonic is great, people sleep on the be quiet! Pure Power 12 M 1000W ATX 3.0 way too often. I swapped a noisy unit for that one last year and it was a total game changer for my office setup. The silence is actually incredible... like I had to check if the fan was even spinning the first time I booted up Cyberpunk. If you're really worried about space and those 4090 power spikes, here's why I'd go this route:
  • The native 12VHPWR cable is way more flexible than the Seasonic ones, which helps a ton when you're trying to clear the O11 side glass.
  • It's usually much cheaper, leaving you extra cash for those extra fans.
  • No coil whine issues in my experience, which is a massive relief compared to the Corsair e-series. I've also seen the Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 1000W Gold at Microcenter for a steal lately. It's another solid ATX 3.0 option that handles transients like a boss. Seriously tho, skip the Corsair if you're sensitive to noise and just grab the be quiet! unit. It's gonna be a fantastic weekend build!

Saw this earlier and i definitely agree with what was said about the warranty being huge for peace of mind. Its not worth the risk on a setup this expensive. Just curious about one thing...

  • how many fans and controllers are you actually putting in there?
  • having some wattage headroom is way safer for those big power spikes
  • reliability is way more important than saving fifty bucks
