I'm building a new gaming rig with the Intel i7-14700K and need advice on the best motherboard to pair with it. I'm looking for options that offer good performance, especially for gaming and potential overclocking. What are the top recommendations in terms of features, price, and reliability? Are there any specific models I should avoid? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The i7-14700K is a beast! For a gaming and overclocking build, a Z790 chipset motherboard is your best bet. The MSI Pro Z790-A Max WiFi offers excellent value, while the MSI MAG Z790 Tomahawk MAX and ASRock Z790 Steel Legend are also popular choices. For higher-end options, consider the Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX or MSI MEG Z790 ACE. Research specific models for compatibility with your other components. Avoid older chipsets like Z690 as they may require a BIOS update.

Hey, just saw this thread. Tbh, since your going with the 14700K, you really gotta be careful with the power delivery. Those chips are absolute heaters and can easily throttle if the boards VRM cooling isn't up to snuff. I've always found that sticking to the higher-end series from brands like ASUS or Gigabyte usually pays off for long-term reliability and better BIOS support. Here's a few resources I usually use to verify things:
- Check out the motherboard VRM tier lists on the LTT forums; they are super helpful for checking power phases.
- Search 'Hardware Unboxed' or 'Buildzoid' on YouTube for there motherboard thermal roundups—it's great to see how they handle stress tests.
- Use PCPartPicker to make sure ur cooler and RAM clearances actually work with the board layout. Anyway, just don't go too budget-tier with that CPU. Reliability should be ur priority when you're pushing that much power through the socket. Better to spend a little more now than deal with crashes later.

Any z790 motherboard is ok.
