Hey everyone! I finally managed to snag a PS5, but my old 1080p office monitor just isn't doing it justice. I'm looking for a solid upgrade that keeps me under the $400 mark. I’ve been researching, but I'm getting a bit lost in the technical specs. Since the PS5 now supports 1440p, I'm torn between getting a high-refresh 1440p display or searching for a budget 4K option. Is HDMI 2.1 a must-have at this price point to hit that 120Hz mark, or should I prioritize better HDR and panel quality? I mainly play fast-paced shooters and some open-world RPGs. Does anyone have a specific model they swear by for this budget?

budget 4k isn't as good as expected. lesson learned, get 1440p:
- LG 27GP850-B 27-inch Nano IPS (speed)
- Dell S2722DGM 27-inch VA (contrast)
both do 120Hz via HDMI 2.0 easily!!

sooo, congrats on the ps5!! honestly, it’s such a huge jump from an office monitor. i’ve been in ur exact spot and spent way too much time researching this stuff. basically, the ps5 supporting 1440p was a total game changer for budget setups. i've been using a high-refresh 1440p display for a while now and i'm super satisfied with the balance... it looks sharp but lets me hit those high frame rates in shooters like cod or apex without breaking the bank. the thing is, at under 400 bucks, budget 4k monitors usually cut corners. they're almost always capped at 60hz, and the response times are kinda trash for fast games. ngl, hdmi 2.1 isn't actually a must-have for 1440p... you can hit 120hz over hdmi 2.0 just fine as long as the monitor supports it. i think you'd be much happier with a high-quality ips panel from a brand like dell or lg that has great colors rather than a cheap 4k panel that feels laggy. plus, true hdr basically doesn't exist at this price point, so don't let those "hdr400" stickers fool u lol. it works well for casual stuff but wont give u that oled pop. to help u narrow it down tho... what's ur viewing distance usually like?? also, do u mostly play in a dark room or is it pretty bright in there? i mean, knowing that'll really help me give u a better suggestion... lmk!! peace

jumping in here, i totally agree that 1440p is the way to go for ps5. it just makes sense. but i actually disagree that speed or contrast is the most important thing to look at tho. tbh im a bit nervous about the reliability of budget options... $400 is a lot of money and i dont want to end up with dead pixels or a screen that dies in a year!!! basically id be looking at the warranty and build quality instead. im a bit of a beginner here but is it better to pick something known for lasting a long time? just feels safer tho.
