Just upgraded to a 7950X3D and need advice on RAM. Currently running 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5-6000 CL30, but wondering if I should go for 64GB or faster timings instead. My usage: gaming (mainly flight sims and strategy games), occasional video editing, and some VM work.

Is 32GB still sufficient? Would tighter timings benefit gaming more than capacity? Budget is flexible, but want the best balance of performance/value for this CPU. Recommendations appreciated!

DDR5 6000 CL30 is the sweet spot. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=DDR5+6000+CL30+amd&------123456890?7649-20

So basically, you're already in a good spot, but I get the itch to upgrade! I've been reading up on this because I'm also learning about the AM5 platform, and it seems like the 7950X3D doesn't realy benefit much from anything faster than what you have because of how the infinity fabric works. It can get a bit wierd if you try to push past 6000. Here are a couple ways you could go depending on your budget: * Stick with your current 32GB DDR5-6000 CL30 kit: This is the best value choice. Since you have the X3D chip, the extra cache handles a lot of the heavy lifting that faster RAM timings usually would, so you might not even notice a difference in strategy games.
* Upgrade to a G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB 64GB (2x32GB) DDR5-6000 CL30: If your VMs are lagging or your video exports feel slow, doubling the capacity is way better than trying to find tighter timings. Flight sims can definatly soak up more than 32GB in busy areas too. Tbh, unless you're actually hitting 100% memory usage during your VM work or editing, you might be better off saving the money? Have you noticed any actual slowdowns yet?
