I'm looking to upgrade my gaming rig with an RTX 4090 GPU, but I'm overwhelmed by the different models available. Which RTX 4090 would you recommend and why? I'm particularly interested in factors like cooling performance, noise levels, and overall build quality.
The MSI Suprim X is a solid choice for the RTX 4090. Based on web reports, Asus cards have the most instances of coil whine, followed by MSI. Gigabyte's 4090 Gaming OC performs well, with fewer coil whine complaints. However, recent news about Gigabyte refusing warranty for cracked PCBs on 3000-series cards is concerning, despite their official 4-year warranty.
For those sensitive to coil whine, PNY's 4090 without a vapor chamber might be a good option. It's worth considering if you can handle the additional anxiety on top of the 12VHPWR cable melting concerns.
Ultimately, coil whine is largely a matter of luck. Have you considered the 4090 Founders Edition as an alternative?
Saw this thread earlier but finally have a sec to chime in! Ngl, I have been through three different 4090s this year alone lol. The first one I grabbed from a big name brand was a total nightmare with the coil whine, it literally sounded like a swarm of bees in my case. I ended up returning it and trying another manufacturer that people usually praise for better power delivery, and wow... the difference in cooling and noise is just insane! Honestly, the one I got now stays so much quieter even when I am pushing it hard in 4K. I definitely learned the hard way that even if the performance is the same on paper, the actual experience of living with the card changes so much depending on which brand you pick. I absolutely love my current setup, it is a night and day difference compared to that first lemon I bought!
I love the RTX 4090 Founders Edition. 🙂Â
All 4090 GPUs perform identically, using the same core. Price differences reflect brand preference, not performance. Unless you desire a specific model like Founder's Edition or Suprim, opt for the most affordable option available.
