Hey everyone! I’m finally looking to upgrade my editing rig because my current setup is starting to choke whenever I work with heavy 4K footage in Premiere Pro. I’ve noticed significant stuttering during playback, especially once I start adding color grades or multiple effects layers. I'm currently torn between an NVIDIA RTX 4070 Ti and the 4080, as I've heard VRAM is absolutely crucial for high-res timelines. I've been a bit confused by the conflicting benchmarks online, so I wanted to ask the pros here. Does anyone have hands-on experience with these cards for rendering and export speeds? Which GPU currently offers the best price-to-performance ratio for a smooth 4K workflow?

late to the party but honestly... if you're doing heavy 4K grading, go for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 16GB. it's pricier but that 16GB VRAM is CRUCIAL vs the 12GB on the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 12GB. 12GB fills up fast with layers, leading to those stutters. the 4080 actually offers better long-term value since it handles high bit-depths way smoother. definitely worth the extra cash for the stability alone!!

> 16GB VRAM is CRUCIAL yeah i went through this last year! honestly, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super 16GB at $800 was amazing value for my 4K exports. totally worth it for ur rig!!

I'm totally with WaffleWrangler on the Super choice. I was literally pulling my hair out last month trying to finish a 4K travel vlog because my old setup kept throwing memory errors every time I opened Lumetri. I finally bit the bullet and grabbed the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super 16GB and honestly... it has been such a relief. No more random crashes mid-export which was basically my biggest nightmare. It just works so well and I'm super satisfied with the reliability. Quick tips for the setup:

  • Switch to NVIDIA Studio Drivers immediately, they are way more stable for video work.
  • Check your PSU, I paired mine with a EVGA SuperNova 850 G6 to make sure I had enough headroom for peak loads. Honestly, having that 16GB buffer makes a world of difference once you start layering... you wont regret it.

In my experience, sticking with NVIDIA is really the only way to go for Premiere Pro. I've been editing 4K footage for years now and honestly, the CUDA support is just way more stable than anything else I've tried. I upgraded my setup recently and basically went for the most powerful card in the current high-end lineup because VRAM is everything when you start piling on Lumetri effects... it just makes everything smoother, right? Honestly, just get the highest tier card from that brand you can afford and you'll be set. It depends on your needs, but investing in a top-spec model is a decent option to avoid stuttering. I mean, I struggled for ages until I finally bit the bullet. It's kinda pricey but worth it if ur doing this for a living. So yeah, go with the green team and you cant go wrong tbh! good luck 👍
