Hey everyone! I’m finally looking to upgrade my editing rig because my current setup is really starting to struggle with 4K 10-bit footage. I primarily work in DaVinci Resolve and Premiere Pro, often handling heavy color grading and multiple layers of effects. I’ve been eyeing the RTX 4080 Super for its VRAM, but I’m wondering if there’s a better value-for-money option available right now in 2024, or if I should consider the high-end AMD cards instead. My budget is around $800-$1,000 for the GPU. Which card would you recommend for the smoothest real-time playback and fastest render speeds in a professional 4K workflow?

Years ago I overspent, so now i use the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super 16GB. It's great value for 4K stuff... maybe check that out?? Lesson: VRAM > raw speed. gl

> "For your situation, id suggest NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 Super 16GB cuz its reallyyy stable." Totally agree with the above! Honestly, if youre working in DaVinci Resolve especially, you really wanna stick with Team Green cuz of how well it utilizes CUDA cores for basically everything—denoising, optical flow, you name it. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 Super 16GB is a total beast because it has those dual AV1 encoders which makes rendering out 4K projects feel sooo much faster than the older cards. I've been using one for a few months now and I'm super satisfied with how it handles Adobe Premiere Pro too. That 16GB of VRAM is basically the magic number for 4K 10-bit workflows... anything less and you might see some stuttering when you start stacking color layers or heavy effects. Ngl, the real-time playback is just buttery smooth even with a few layers of grading. If you're looking to save a bit of cash without losing that 16GB VRAM buffer, you could also check out the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super 16GB. It usually sits around the $800 mark and handles 4K pretty much just as well for most timelines, which gives you more budget for extra RAM or faster NVMe storage. But yeah, if you can swing the 1k, the 4080 Super is definitely the more future-proof bet for heavy professional use. I'd personally stay away from AMD for this... even though the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX 24GB has way more memory, the NVIDIA Studio Drivers are just way more stable for these apps in my experience. gl!
