I'm looking to build a new video editing workstation in 2024 and trying to figure out what the best graphics card for Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, After Effects, etc. will be a couple years from now. I know GPU tech moves quickly so some cards that are top-of-the-line today likely won't be in 2024.
My main uses will be editing and rendering 4K/6K/8K video, visual effects, some 3D/motion graphics work, transcoding media, and color grading. I'll be working with RAW footage from high-megapixel cameras so need something that can easily handle high resolution and codec demands.
Ideally I'd want at least 16GB of fast video memory but am willing to go up to 24GB or maybe even 32GB if cards support that much by 2024. I know NVIDIA RTX cards are popular for creative workloads today but not sure if AMD or Intel Arc might be better options in a few years. I don't have a set budget but probably looking in the $1500 range if I had to guess.
What video card specs should I target for a high-end video editing build in 2024? Which GPU brands and product lines will likely be top performers by then? Is there any rumored or upcoming graphics tech I should keep an eye out for? Appreciate any insight into what the best card for Premiere Pro, Resolve, etc. might be in a couple years! Trying to make an informed choice on next major GPU upgrade.
I think NVIDIA RTX cards will still be the way to go for video editing in 2024. The RTX 5000 series or whatever the latest architecture is by then should have specs perfect for Premiere and Resolve - faster encoders, more CUDA cores, and lots of video memory. I'd guess an RTX 5080 or 5090 with 24GB VRAM would be an ideal choice. The NVENC encoder will continue improving and be important for export times. Stick with NVIDIA.
For high-end video card, get RTX 4090
For mid-range video card, get RTX 4070 Ti SUPER
For entry-level video card, get RTX 3060
RTX 4080 SUPER or RTX 4090.
For Video Editing, NVIDIA cards are much better than AMD cards.
What about AMD cards ?
@summerisover Nvidia's encoding capabilities significantly outperform those of AMD in terms of quality and efficiency.
RTX 4080 SUPER.
