My new laptop only has one port and I am literally losing my mind trying to plug in my mouse and monitor for my new job. I bought some cheap thing but it's garbage and I have no idea what I'm doing. What's the best usb-c hub for productivity that wont break the bank? i really need something by Monday.
@Reply #1 - good point! Anker is definitely the safe bet for most people but you gotta be super careful about power delivery overhead tbh. I spent literally months geeking out over these because my first cheap hub kept flickering every time I moved my mouse... it was a total nightmare lol. Most people dont realize the hub itself eats up like 15W of your chargers power before your laptop even sees it. If you want something with actual technical chops, I am obsessed with the CalDigit SOHO Dock Gen2 10Gbps. It is amazing because it uses a full DisplayPort 1.4 bus so you get that buttery smooth 4K at 60Hz without any weird lag or compression artifacts. It’s a total beast for productivity! Another fantastic option if you're on a budget is the Plugable 7-in-1 USB-C Hub with 4K HDMI. The data transfer speeds are super consistent and it doesnt feel like a hollow plastic toy. Just a heads up tho, make sure you hook it up to a beefy wall brick like a Anker 735 Charger GaNPrime 65W so you have enough juice to power the monitor and your peripherals simultaneously. Ngl, skipping the generic brands and getting something with a real controller chip inside makes a world of difference for your sanity...
Ugh I've been there! Cheap hubs are legit scary for your hardware lol. You should check out Anker 555 USB-C Hub 8-in-1 because it's super reliable and won't short out your ports!
Honestly, its disappointing how many of these are just garbage. I have had so many issues with cheap ones failing mid-task, ngl. Before you buy anything else tho, what laptop are you actually using? Knowing that helps a ton with the monitor setup.
Honestly, I spent years trying to save twenty bucks here and there on these things and it always backfired. I remember this one time I was in the middle of a huge presentation and my cheap hub just... died. Screen went black, mouse stopped working, the whole thing. It was so embarrassing. Since then, I've realized that reliability is basically the only thing that actually matters when you're working. My current setup isn't flashy but it hasn't flickered once in two years. Over the years I've learned that if it feels light and hollow, it's probably gonna let you down eventually. Nowadays I just look for something with a solid weight to it and a braided cable. It might cost a bit more upfront but man, the peace of mind when you arent constantly unplugging and replugging stuff just to get your monitor to wake up is worth every penny. Just my two cents from someone who's killed at least five of these things tho.
