Hey everyone! I'm building a heavy-duty rendering rig with a Threadripper and two RTX 4090s. I really need something that can handle constant 24/7 load safely.
What is the most reliable PSU currently available for a high-end workstation?
Hey, catching this a bit late but I had a similar headache when building my workstation last year. Honestly, when you are running dual 4090s and a Threadripper, those transient power spikes can trip a lower-tier PSU so easily. I learned the hard way that 1200W just doesnt leave enough headroom for comfort if you are pushing 24/7 renders. I ended up going with the Seasonic PRIME TX-1600 ATX 3.0 1600W Titanium and it has been rock solid. It comes with the native 12VHPWR cables which saves a ton of clutter and avoids the risk of melting adapters. If you can find it, the Corsair AX1600i 1600W Digital Titanium is also a beast because of its GaN transistors, though it is usually more expensive.
Late to the party but honestly you dont always need to pay the titanium tax. Check the Cybenetics database or the Cultists Network tier list to save some cash. I usually recommend the Seasonic PRIME PX-1600 1600W 80 Plus Platinum if you find it on sale. Its basically bulletproof for rendering and way cheaper than those ultra-premium digital units while still being super reliable.
tbh thats a massive power draw. im not 100% sure which unit is technically the best for 24/7 rendering but I think I recall hearing that 1600W Titanium units are the only way to go. Not sure but I think some of the pros swear by specific server-grade platforms... you definitely want something with zero corners cut for that kind of heat tho, ngl.
