so im finishing my 4060 build by friday and stuck between the corsair cx650 and the evga 600 bq. my logic was the evga saves me ten bucks for snacks but i dont want my pc to explode... corsair seems safer but is it worth the extra cash for a mid-range setup?

Just catching up on this thread and wow, i love that you are doing a 4060 build! That card is absolutely fantastic for the price! Honestly i used to be super reckless with power supplies until a cheap unit literally fried my motherboard and ram back in the day. it was a total disaster! now i am incredibly methodical about checking specs before buying. if you want to save those ten bucks for snacks but still feel totally safe, you should definitely check out the Cooler Master MWE Bronze 600W V2. it uses dc-to-dc topology which is much more stable for modern hardware compared to older designs. i picked one up for a budget project recently and the performance for the price is just incredible! its such a solid way to save money without risking your hardware. you are gonna love that new setup!

I remember building my first rig and agonizing over every dollar. I ended up picking a cheap unit that lasted me four years without an issue, so sometimes you get lucky. In your case, both of these are decent options for a 4060 which doesnt pull much power anyway.

  • The Corsair CX650 650W 80+ Bronze has a slightly better reputation for noise levels.
  • The EVGA 600 BQ 600W 80+ Bronze is semi-modular which makes cable management easier in small cases.
  • Both have enough juice for your build with plenty of headroom. Honestly, if that ten bucks means a lot right now, the EVGA is fine. But if you want a bit more peace of mind for the next few years, the Corsair is the safer bet. I usually look for the Thermaltake Smart BM3 650W too when I am trying to save cash. It usually pops up on sale often.

Building on the earlier suggestion, grab the MSI MAG A650BN 650W 80 Plus Bronze instead. Its got solid DC-to-DC conversion and better caps than those budget EVGA units. Definitely wont explode.

Honestly, check out the be quiet! System Power 10 650W 80 Plus Bronze. Im super satisfied with how it handles power spikes compared to those older EVGA units. Ten bucks is nothing compared to a fried 4060... basically just look for units with decent protection circuits like OVP and SCP. This one works well and stays really silent too. No complaints from my end.
