Been building since the 900 series but these 4090 transient spikes are kinda stressing me out. My logic was 1000W would cut it but with the 14900k chugging power maybe I need 1200W?

Got a $250 budget for this weekend. Native ATX 3.0 or just use my old adapters...

Building on the earlier suggestion, I definitely think 1200W is the smart play. Those 14900K chips are absolute monsters and can pull way more than you think. If you're chugging power like that, 1000W is just cutting it way too close for my comfort. I would suggest being pretty careful about using old adapters tho... the native 12VHPWR cables are way more reliable and less of a headache. Check these out:

  • MSI MEG Ai1300P PCIE5 1300W 80 Plus Platinum
  • This one has digital monitoring so you can actually track your power usage and spikes. Kinda cool for peace of mind.
  • Seasonic VERTEX GX-1200 1200W Gold ATX 3.0
  • Seasonic is basically the goat for reliability. Their 12-year warranty is unmatched and the build quality is always top tier. Honestly, dont risk a high end build on a shaky power supply... just isnt worth the anxiety.

Unfortunately those 1000W units arent as reliable as expected with the new power hungry chips, had issues with tripping. Go 1200W:

  • Corsair RM1200x Shift 1200W ATX 3.0
  • Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 1200W
