What is the absolute best 4K monitor I can get right now that will actually make me feel like I am inside the game? Honestly I am so frustrated because I have been looking at reviews for three days straight and I still have no idea what I am doing or what any of these technical words even mean. Everyone keeps talking about OLED and hertz and response times and I just feel stupid because I dont understand how to tell which one is actually better for just making things look good.

I just bought this really expensive prebuilt computer from a shop here in Chicago because I wanted to finally play games like Cyberpunk and Elden Ring on the highest settings but right now I am still using my old 24 inch monitor from like 2018 and it looks so blurry and small. I want something that fills my vision and makes the colors look super bright and the blacks look actually black instead of that weird gray color. Is that too much to ask for?

  • My budget is around $800 but I could maybe do $1000 if it is really worth it
  • I need to buy it by Friday so I can play all weekend
  • I mostly play single player adventure games not competitive shooters
  • Is curved better for immersion or does it just look weird?

I just want to stop being confused and just buy something that works without needing a degree in engineering to set up...

man, i feel your pain. honestly, most of the monitors out there are super disappointing once you actually plug them in. i spent way too many years buying those standard IPS panels thinking they were top tier, but unfortunately, they always have that gross grey glow in dark scenes. it totally kills the vibe in a game like Elden Ring where you want those deep shadows to actually feel scary. if you want that inside the game feeling, you gotta go OLED. nothing else even comes close. basically everything else is just a compromise thatll leave you wanting more. heres the breakdown:

  • OLED means every single pixel turns off completely, so black is actually black, not dark grey.
  • 32-inch is the sweet spot for 4K. it fills your vision way better than that tiny 24-inch you have now.
  • Curved is actually pretty cool for immersion on a bigger screen because it matches the natural curve of your eye, just dont go too extreme with it. I had issues with some cheaper high-end panels recently and ended up returning them because the colors looked washed out and the HDR was a joke. I finally bit the bullet and grabbed the Alienware AW3225QF 32-inch 4K QD-OLED 240Hz and its honestly the only thing that didnt let me down. It hits right at that $1000 mark usually. If you want those bright colors and perfect blacks you mentioned, its the one. Most of the other stuff i tried was just... not as good as expected tbh.

TL;DR: Go OLED or go home! Honestly, the Alienware AW3225QF 32-inch 4K QD-OLED is the absolute king for immersion right now. Its slightly curved which feels amazing for single player games and the colors are just insane! It hits your $1000 budget and is worth every cent. Just use the included cable and you are totally good to go for the weekend!

To add to the point above, skipping the standard IPS glow is definitely the move for immersion. I have been very satisfied with these two 4K options:

  • MSI MAG 321UPX QD-OLED 32-inch 4K 240Hz: This qd-oled panel gives you perfect blacks. It basically makes Cyberpunk look like a different game.
  • Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 32-inch 4K 165Hz Mini-LED: The curve wraps around your field of view. It is super bright and works well even in lit rooms.
