im literally stressing out so hard right now trying to find a monitor for my ps5 before next weekend bc i finally saved up enough money but everything is so confusing. like i have exactly $500 to spend and i dont want to waste it on something that doesnt even work right with the console. i spent all night reading reviews and i keep seeing the gigabyte m28u recommended but then some people on reddit are saying the hdr is totally trash and the colors look washed out compared to a tv? then i looked at the asus tuf vg28uql1a but its like $550 at best buy right now which is over my limit and i cant find it cheaper anywhere. i just want something that actually does 4k at 120hz without me having to jump through hoops or mess with settings for hours.

here is what i need:

  • full hdmi 2.1 support for ps5 features
  • 4k resolution obviously
  • under $500 including tax if possible
  • decent input lag because i play a lot of call of duty

is there even anything worth it at this price point or am i just dreaming? i heard the samsung g7 is okay but ive read horror stories about flickering issues and now im just scared to click buy on anything...

Dude, seriously dont panic! You are actually looking at the right stuff. I went through this exact same freakout when I was upgrading and honestly... you should just grab the Gigabyte M28U 28-inch 4K 144Hz Gaming Monitor and not look back! I have been using one for months and it is absolutely fantastic for the price. People on reddit love to complain about HDR on budget panels, but tbh, you arent getting real HDR unless you spend double your budget on an OLED or something with a million dimming zones. For Call of Duty? This thing is a total game changer. The input lag is insanely low and seeing that 120Hz pop up on the screen is such a rush! If you are really worried about colors, another amazing option that usually dips under $500 is the Acer Nitro XV282K KV 28-inch 4K 144Hz. It uses a similar panel as the Gigabyte but some people think the colors are a bit better out of the box. Both are great for PS5. Quick tip though... just turn HDR off in the PS5 settings. Seriously. These mid-range monitors try their best but the SDR mode actually looks way more vibrant and less washed out like you were worried about. Also, make sure you use the HDMI cable that came with the console because it is actually a high-quality 2.1 cable! You got this!

Unfortunately, finding a truly high-quality HDR experience under $500 is basically impossible right now. Most budget 4K monitors are not as good as expected when it comes to peak brightness compared to a TV. If you want something reliable, the LG 27GR93U-B 27 inch UltraGear 4K 144Hz Gaming Monitor is a solid alternative. It handles HDMI 2.1 features natively and fits your budget better than the Asus.

Jumping in here! Before you commit, how much control do you actually have over the lighting in your room? It affects perceived contrast and black levels more than you think... Honestly, just look at the Sony Inzone lineup. They are literally engineered for the PS5 ecosystem and the data processing is amazing! You seriously cant go wrong with their tech for console gaming.
