Got a PS5 recently and my old 1080p screen looks pretty blurry now so I need an upgrade. I was looking at the Gigabyte M28U because the price is right but I keep reading that the HDR is basically fake and it wont get bright enough for my sunny room.
My logic was to get something with HDMI 2.1 for the 120Hz support in games like CoD but then people say the LG 27GP950 is way better. Problem is that one is pushing my $550 budget. I'm just trying to figure out if the HDR is actually worth the extra cash or if there's a middle ground I haven't found yet...
Unfortunately, HDR performance on these mid-range panels is consistently disappointing. I had issues with the Gigabyte M28U 28-inch 4K 144Hz Gaming Monitor in my own setup; the peak brightness simply isnt enough to combat glare, let alone provide a real HDR experience. It is frustrating because you pay for the feature, but it basically feels like a marketing gimmick at this price point. The LG 27GP950-B 27-inch Ultragear 4K UHD Nano-IPS is definitely more capable, but its not as good as expected for nearly six hundred dollars. If you're trying to stay under budget, I recommend looking at the ASUS TUF Gaming VG28UQL1A 28-inch 4K 144Hz HDMI 2.1. It's a solid middle ground that handles 120Hz for CoD perfectly. While the HDR still isnt great, the SDR brightness is much more reliable for a bright room than the M28U. Honestly, spending more just for entry-level HDR usually leads to regret... better to focus on the refresh rate.
> problem is that one is pushing my $550 budget. Grab the Samsung Odyssey G7 S28AG70 28-inch 4K 144Hz! Its amazing for PS5 and fits your price. Peak brightness handles glare perfectly! Love it!
