Hey everyone. I'm finally looking to upgrade from my old GTX 1050 because it's just not cutting it for competitive play anymore. I'm trying to hit a consistent 144fps at 1080p without breaking the bank. My budget is strictly under $250.
I've been looking at a few specific options:
I mostly play Valorant and Apex Legends, so I really need stability during fast fights. I'm okay with turning settings down to low, but I'm torn on which card offers the most bang for my buck. Which budget GPU is actually the best choice for competitive 1080p gaming right now?
I saw this a few hours ago and wanted to add a more cautious perspective. If you prioritize stability above all else, the MSI GeForce RTX 3060 Ventus 2X 12GB GDDR6 is usually the safest bet for drivers, though finding one under $250 often means going used, which carries its own risks like no warranty. Regarding the Intel Arc A750 8GB Limited Edition, it is a great piece of hardware for the price, but I would be careful. It requires Resizable BAR to be enabled in your BIOS, or the performance drops significantly. Also, Intel is still smoothing out frame pacing in some DX11 titles like Apex, which can feel jittery during fast fights. For a strictly new card under your budget, the Gigabyte Radeon RX 6600 Eagle 8GB GDDR6 is very efficient. It doesnt run hot and the power draw is minimal, which is great for longevity. Just make sure your PSU is decent regardless of what you pick.
Id go with the AMD Radeon RX 6600 8GB GDDR6 for sure. Its the king of budget 1080p right now and easily handles Valorant and Apex at 144fps. My tip? Stick with AMD for this price range because the drivers are solid now and you get better raw performance per dollar than Nvidias low end stuff.
Coming back to this, I'd suggest the XFX Speedster SWFT 210 Radeon RX 6650 XT 8GB GDDR6 instead. The increased memory bandwidth and higher clocks offer better 1% low stability for competitive play.
