Hey everyone! I’m finally looking to upgrade my setup for 1440p gaming, but I’m really trying to stick to a 'budget' without sacrificing those high frame rates. I’ve been eyeing the RX 7800 XT and the RTX 4070, but they still feel a bit pricey for my wallet. I’m mostly playing fast-paced shooters and some open-world RPGs, so hitting 120fps+ is a huge priority for me. Is it worth looking at last-gen cards like the 6800 XT, or are the newer mid-range options better for long-term value? My budget is capped around $450-$500. What card would you guys pick to balance price and 1440p performance right now?

I'd suggest:
- AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT 16GB (reliable choice)
- AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT 16GB (great used value)
Honestly, 16GB VRAM is waaay safer for 1440p long-term... gl!
In my experience, I’d honestly stick with the AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT 16GB. It’s the safest path for high-refresh 1440p because 16GB VRAM is basically essential for longevity. I’m super happy with my AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT 16GB tho, it still works well if ur trying to stay under $500. Definately avoid lower VRAM cards... just way too risky for future titles!! gl
I saw this thread earlier and I’m kinda surprised everyone is so big on the older cards. I mean, I’m pretty new to all the technical specs, but isn’t it sorta risky to drop that much cash on something without a solid warranty? I’d be way more worried about the card dying on me than just the VRAM numbers. Before you decide, I gotta ask a couple things:
* Do you actually feel comfortable buying used/last-gen, or are you looking for something brand new with full protection? * Are you gonna be okay if the card doesn't have the latest software features that help with those high frame rates? I’m just thinking about reliability long-term. Wait no, I guess I mean I’m worried about spending $500 and then having no backup if it breaks. Is the extra memory really that much better than having peace of mind? I dont want to buy something thats just gonna fail in a year.
