What is the best Intel CPU for high-end gaming today?

Ive been staring at my old rig for way too long now and honestly it is time for a change because my current setup is literally wheezing every time I try to boot up something like Cyberpunk or even just Modded Minecraft with too many shaders going. I finally saved up enough cash to do a proper high-end build and I am pretty much set on staying with Intel this time around just because I am more comfortable with the platform but man the current lineup is kind of a mess to navigate. I have a budget of about six hundred bucks just for the processor and I am trying to get everything ordered by next Friday so I can build it over the weekend since I have a long weekend coming up.

I was looking at the i9-14900K because obviously it is the top of the stack right now but then I started reading all these forum posts and tech articles about the stability issues and how some people are having to undervolt them just to keep them from crashing or hitting 100 degrees instantly. That sounds like a massive headache that I dont really want to deal with if I am being honest. Then I saw some benchmarks saying the i7-14700K is basically 95 percent of the performance for way less heat and money but then other people say if you are going high-end you might as well go all the way to the i9 or stay on the 13th gen because the 14th gen is just a refresh.

I am planning on pairing this with a 4080 Super and I mostly play at 4K so I know the GPU does the heavy lifting but I still want the snappiest experience possible without my room turning into a literal sauna. I am lucky enough to live near a Microcenter so I can go pick it up today if I really wanted to but the conflicting reviews are stopping me. Is the 14900K actually the king for gaming right now or am I just buying a space heater that is gonna give me blue screens? Or should I just stick with something like the 13900K or the i7 and call it a day? Stick with the Intel Core i7-14700K 20-Core 3.4GHz if you want the best value. At 4K resolution, your CPU isnt the bottleneck anyway, and this chip is plenty fast for a 4080 Super.

If you really want the i9 badge, the Intel Core i9-13900K 24-Core 3.0GHz is often a bit more predictable than the 14900K which is pushed to the absolute limit out of the box.
