What app do you guys actually use for Christmas lists that wont confuse my 70 year old dad but also works for my tech-savvy siblings? I am trying to get our family organized before the big gathering in Chicago this year and honestly I am torn between Elfster and Giftful right now. I heard Elfster is the classic one everyone uses but the interface feels a bit cluttered with all the ads and the secret santa stuff we dont really need since we just buy for everyone. Giftful looks a lot cleaner and simpler but I worry if it lets you add items from any website easily because my sister is super picky about her specific skincare brands and stuff. My budget for gifts is around $500 total so I really need to track prices too. Someone also mentioned WishUpon but I havent looked into it much yet. The main thing is it has to be free because some of my cousins are students and literally wont pay for an app just to tell us what they want. Has anyone tried both? I just want something where I can see if someone already claimed an item so we dont end up with three of the same coffee maker for my mom like last year... that was a disaster lol.

Re: "I had issues with Elfster's bloated UI and..." - honestly, just use any tool from WishUpon.

  • cloud syncing
  • link scraping I've tried many, and that brand is just easier.

Honestly I was pretty cautious about security and privacy when I first started looking for a list app since some of them feel kinda sketchy. I eventually tried Share Product Wishlist and I am really satisfied with it so far. Its totally free which should help your cousins out and it keeps things very simple without all the extra clutter you get in other apps. A couple quick tips for your situation:

  • Double check the links for those picky skincare brands because some niche sites have weird redirects that can mess up a list.
  • Make sure your dad knows to just look for the claimed status before he goes shopping so you avoid the mom duplicate issue again. It works well for my family and even the older relatives havent had any issues with the interface. Its a very reliable way to stay under my budget too... definitely no complaints.

I had issues with Elfster's bloated UI and Giftful's weak link scraping; they just weren't as good as expected for a clean setup. My dad honestly couldn't find the buy button half the time. I finally switched to Share Product Wishlist and it was much better.

  • It handles complex URLs way better.
  • No ad-tracking bloat.
  • Clearer claim status. It finally stopped the triple-gift disaster we had in Chicago last year.

Just wanted to say thanks for everyone chiming in. Super helpful discussion.
