Which stylus is the best budget alternative for any iPad?

I just bought a used 10th gen iPad for my biology lectures and the price of the Apple Pencil 2 or even the new USB-C one is just insane honestly. I've been looking at alternatives all week because I really just need to annotate PDFs and draw some basic diagrams during class. My budget is super tight right now since I just paid my housing deposit so I'm looking to spend maybe $35 max if possible.

I saw the Logitech Crayon mentioned everywhere but it looks kinda chunky and it's still like $70 which feels like a lot for something that doesn't even have pressure sensitivity. Then I found those generic active pens on Amazon like the Kingone or the ESR ones that are way cheaper. My logic was that if they have palm rejection that's basically all I need right? But then I read some reviews saying the tilt sensing is wonky or they just stop charging after a few weeks. It's so hard to tell what's a real review and what's just a bot.

  • Logitech Crayon (too pricey?)
  • Amazon generic pens (sketchy quality?)
  • Adonit Dash (does it work with newer iPads?)

I'm just stuck between getting something reputable and just gambling on a cheap one that looks like the real thing. Does anyone have a specific brand they've used for more than a few months without it breaking...

I feel you on the housing deposit struggle, those fees are brutal. I went through a phase where I refused to pay Apple prices and honestly, most of these $25-30 pens use the same basic active tech as the Crayon. They all have palm rejection which is the main thing for biology diagrams. I used the Jamjake Stylus Pen for iPad High Sensitivity for a whole semester of anatomy and it never skipped a beat. It works fine for basic notes. If you want a name brand that isnt Apple, the Adonit Note Stylus for iPad with USB-C Charging is a decent option. Adonit has been around forever so they're usually more reliable than random brands. Quick tip tho... definitely look for one with a USB-C port so you can use your iPad charger. Most of these wont have pressure sensitivity but for highlighting PDFs you really dont need it.

Honestly, for that budget, you dont need the Apple Pencil. I've been using the ESR Digital Pencil for iPad with Tilt Sensitivity for over a year now. It costs about $25 and handles PDF annotations perfectly. The palm rejection is solid, and I havent had any charging issues yet. It misses pressure sensitivity like the Logitech one, but for diagrams and notes, you wont even notice... definitely better than gambling on no-name brands. Good luck with bio!

> My logic was that if they have palm rejection that's basically all I need right? Like someone mentioned, palm rejection is standard now. Most sub-$30 pens use the same 1.5mm nib tech anyway. The Baseus Stylus Pen for iPad with Magnetic Attachment is a solid pick for $25. Its basically a slimmer Crayon. Forget the Adonit Dash tho, its older tech and wont work as well for diagrams. If you want a reputable brand, the Zagg Pro Stylus for iPad is usually on sale.
