So I finally bit the bullet and got the new iPad Pro for work because my old one is basically a paperweight now. Im starting a new gig doing site inspections next month so I really need something that can survive a drop on concrete or dirt if I slip. I have been looking at a few different ones and I am kinda stuck between like three options. My logic was to go with the OtterBox Defender because thats what everyone uses on construction sites but man it is so chunky and looks like a total brick in your hand. Then I saw the Zugu cases on a few YouTube reviews and they look super slick with all those magnets and the different angles but im worried it wont actually protect the screen or corners if it hits the ground hard. I also looked at the Mous case because they do those crazy drop tests but it is pushing my budget a bit since I really dont want to spend more than 90 bucks after tax. I need to order something by next week before I head out to the first site in Arizona. Is the Zugu actually tough enough for outdoor work or should I just suck it up and get the ugly OtterBox? Or maybe there is something else that is rugged but not totally gross to look at? Hard to choose when I havent touched any of them in person...
Been thinking about your budget situation and honestly you dont need to drop 90 bucks. I used to carry a basic folder case on sites and learned the hard way that grip is everything when your hands are sweaty in the heat. Last year out in Nevada I swapped to the UAG Metropolis Series iPad Pro 11-inch Case and it saved my device twice from a four foot drop onto packed dirt. It has those beefy corners like the OtterBox but feels way less like a literal brick in your bag. The Zugu is great for coffee shops but the edges are too soft for a drop on gravel tbh. If you want to save some cash for other gear look at the Spigen Tough Armor Pro iPad Pro Case. It has a built in kickstand and decent shock absorption for about half your budget. TL;DR: Skip the Zugu for field work because it lacks corner bulk. Get the UAG for serious drops or the Spigen to stay well under budget while keeping the screen safe.
Honestly, I had high hopes for those magnetic cases but unfortunately they let me down on a job last year. Been doing site inspections for ten years and my screen finally shattered after a tiny drop because the corner protection just wasnt there.
