I'm finally building my RTX 4080 rig and need a top-tier 850W PSU. I'm ideally looking for an ATX 3.0 compliant unit with a native 12VHPWR cable to keep the cable management clean. Since it's a high-end setup, reliability and quiet operation are my biggest concerns. What specific models would you recommend?

In my experience, ATX 3.0 handles transient spikes which is crucial for safety. Im super satisfied with the Corsair RM850e (2023) 850W ATX 3.0 Fully Modular PSU, its been reliable, but dont skip surge protection!

Totally agree with the above! honestly, I'd also look at the MSI MPG A850G PCIE5 850W 80+ Gold Power Supply. It's quiet, realy cheaper, and handles 4080 spikes like a champ. gl!!

Yo, congrats on the 4080! After building rigs for over a decade, I've learned the hard way to NEVER cheap out on the unit powering your gear... I literally had a low-end PSU fry a high-end motherboard back in 2012. For your setup, I really suggest looking at the Seasonic VERTEX GX-850 850W 80+ Gold ATX 3.0 Fully Modular Power Supply. Seasonic is basically the gold standard for long-term reliability and their protection circuits are rock solid, which is what you want for safety. Another great pick is the Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 850W 80+ Gold PCIe Gen 5 ATX 3.0 Fully Modular PSU. It's super quiet and handles those weird power spikes like a champ. Honestly, just make sure you use that native 12VHPWR cable so you dont have to mess with clunky adapters. gl!

tbh you've already gotten some great high-end suggestions, but since you're doing a DIY build, are you trying to squeeze every dollar for performance or do you have a specific budget cap for the PSU? Id also be curious what case you're using because cable stiffness on some of these native 12VHPWR cables is a nightmare for management in tighter spaces if youre doing it yourself. If you want to save some cash without sacrificing those ATX 3.0 transients or build quality, check these out:
- be quiet! Pure Power 12 M 850W: basically the sweet spot for silence and price right now.
- Montech TITAN GOLD 850W: uses a high-end CWT platform but you arent paying the brand tax. Its pretty easy to overspend on 'premium' labels when the actual ripple suppression and load regulation are basically the same across these top-tier units
