I'm finally upgrading to a 14900K and want a Z790 board that can handle serious overclocking. I’m looking for top-tier VRMs and excellent DDR5 memory support, as I’m aiming for 8000MHz+. I’ve looked at the ASUS Maximus and Aorus Master, but which one actually stays coolest under load? Any recommendations for the ultimate performance board?
- The Gigabyte Z790 AORUS TACHYON X has massive VRM sinks, but honestly, what's your cooling setup? Reaching 8000MHz+ basically requires custom loops... what case you using tho?

For your situation, I’ve tried many boards and honestly, if youre chasing 8000MHz+, you gotta go with a 2-dimm board. I’d definitely recommend the ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Apex Encore. It's literally the king of memory OC and the VRMs stay pretty cool even under serious stress. The Aorus is decent, but the Apex is basically on another level for tuning. Good luck with the silicon lottery lol. 👍
Basically, flagship boards are often a money pit... unfortunately, I've had issues with the value they provide. You pay a huge premium for 20+ phase VRMs that are just overkill. Respectfully, I'd consider another option and look at mid-range MSI or ASRock boards. I think they handle high clocks just fine for way less. Not sure if 8000MHz is even stable for daily use, iirc it's mostly for benchmarks lol. Just dont overspend, save ur cash!
Good to know!
