So I'm trying to figure out what the best budget AM4 motherboard is these days for a solid gaming build without overspending on dead-end tech. I've been building PCs for a good decade now but honestly the current state of the AM4 market is driving me a bit crazy because the prices are all over the place since AM5 launched.
I'm putting together a mid-range rig for my younger brother for his graduation in three weeks and I've already got a Ryzen 5 5600 and some 3200mhz CL16 ram ready to go. My budget for the board is strictly under $100 because I'm trying to squeeze in a better GPU. I looked at the MSI B550-A Pro but it keeps jumping up to like $120 which feels like a ripoff for an older platform.
Is there anything under 90 bucks that isnt a total piece of junk? I need at least one m.2 slot and decent enough power delivery so it doesn't overheat during long Warzone sessions. I usually swear by ASUS but their cheap Prime boards look kinda sketchy lately with the heatsinks or lack thereof. Should I be looking at the ASRock B550M Pro4 or is there something better I'm missing from Gigabyte? Just trying to find that sweet spot where I'm not buying a fire hazard but also not paying for features he won't ever use...
Built five rigs with the Gigabyte B550M DS3H Micro ATX recently. Its a solid, functional board.
> Is there anything under 90 bucks that isnt a total piece of junk? I ran into this same issue building a guest PC last month. Ended up grabbing the ASRock B550M Pro4 Micro ATX for $89 and it honestly surprised me. It has way better heat sinks than the Gigabyte B550M DS3H AC Micro ATX. That one felt cheap. The ASRock handles the 5600 fine. No sweat. Plus the dual M.2 slots are great for adding storage later.
