Best Z790 motherboard for high-end gaming and heavy overclocking?

I'm finally putting together my dream build around an i9-14900K and a 4090, but I'm stuck on the motherboard. Since I plan on pushing some heavy overclocks on both the P-cores and my DDR5 kit (aiming for 8000MT/s+), I need something with top-tier VRMs and a beefy cooling solution. I've been eyeing the ASUS Maximus Dark Hero and the MSI Godlike, but I’m curious if they’re worth the premium or if something like the Z790 Aorus Tachyon is better for pure performance. Stability is huge for me since this will also be my daily driver. Which Z790 board actually offers the best BIOS features and power delivery for serious enthusiasts?

Seconding the recommendation above. Honestly, if you're pushing 8000MT/s+, you basically gotta look at 2-slot boards for the best signal integrity: * ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Apex Encore
* Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Tachyon Standard 4-slot boards have too much signal noise for high-end memory—these are built for records but still stay stable for daily use, you know?

Late to the party but I've been down this road. While those 2-slot boards the guys mentioned are kings, I found the MSI MEG Z790 ACE MAX holds its own for a lot less cash. Also, the ASRock Z790 Taichi Lite is a total sleeper hit for VRM performance. Honestly, just make sure to test your IMC first cuz that's usually the real bottleneck at 8000mt/s!! GL!!

In my experience, when ur pushing a 14900K and trying to hit 8000MT/s+, basically EVERYTHING comes down to PCB signal integrity. I think most people dont realize that standard boards with 4 RAM slots struggle with high-frequency memory cuz of the trace layout creating lowkey noise. In my current setup, here is what I found:
- 2-DIMM slot boards are CRITICAL for hitting those 8k+ speeds consistently.
- VRM cooling needs to be BEEFY if ur pushing heavy voltage into those P-cores.
- BIOS recovery features are a lifesaver when an OC fails hard. I actually started with a super expensive flagship, but honestly, it couldn't handle the memory clocks I wanted. I switched to a more niche, specialized board and the difference was MASSIVE. It’s definitely a bit more finicky for a daily driver tho, so just be careful and make sure to prioritize signal quality over fancy aesthetics... gl with the build man!
