Building a budget-friendly AM5 system with the Ryzen 5 7600 for 1080p gaming and light streaming. Want a motherboard under $200 with DDR5 support, decent VRMs, and maybe built-in Wi-Fi. B650 boards seem appealing, but are there any hidden gems? Not overclocking, just need reliability and easy setup. Thoughts on MSI vs. ASUS for this CPU?

The MSI MPG B650 Carbon WiFi is highly regarded for its balance of features and price, making it ideal for gamers and PC builders looking for a solid foundation for their Ryzen 5 7600 setup. It offers excellent connectivity options and strong memory support, although it lacks a Gen5 graphics card slot, which may limit future GPU upgrades

So I just saw this thread while researching my own build! Tbh I'm still a bit of a beginner here, but I've been obsessing over the reliability side of things because I really don't want to deal with parts failing on me. Could you share what kind of case you're using? It might help to know if you need specific headers for the front panel or if space is an issue for the components. Anyway, here are a few things I've been warned about for this platform that might be worth looking out for: 1. *BIOS Flashback.* Definitely check if the board has a physical button for this. It's basically a lifesaver if the BIOS is unstable out of the box or if you need to update it without a working CPU.
2. *Memory Training.* Some AM5 boards have really long boot times. It’s not necessarily a defect, but it can be *super* frustrating if you aren't expecting it every time you turn it on.
3. *Socket Pins.* This is my biggest fear lol. Just be really careful during the install because those pins are fragile and any damage there basically kills the whole board's reliability. Honestly just trying to play it safe. What do you think?

So I've been looking at a bunch of spreadsheets and market data lately because I'm also planning a 7600 build. It's actually kind of crazy how much the brands differ once you look past the marketing stuff.

  • Gigabyte is basically the hidden gem king right now with the Gigabyte B650 Gaming X AX because it has better cooling for the VRMs than the entry level ASUS boards I've seen in benchmarks.
  • ASRock is a huge dark horse too - something like the ASRock B650 Pro RS WiFi has way more expansion options like extra M.2 slots for the price compared to the budget MSI lines. Basically, if you're just choosing between MSI and ASUS, I've seen a lot of tech testers saying ASUS has had slower boot times on AM5 lately. MSI seems more stable for simple setups, but honestly, Gigabyte and ASRock are actually giving you more hardware for the money in this specific generation lol. Do you think you'll need more than two SSD slots later on?
