I'm finally making the jump to the AM5 platform for a mid-range gaming build, probably pairing it with a Ryzen 5 7600X. I've been scouting for a solid B650 motherboard, but the price range is honestly all over the place. I want something budget-friendly that doesn't feel 'cheap' or compromise too much on performance.
I’ve been looking at options like the MSI PRO B650M-A WiFi and the ASRock B650M Pro RS, but I’m worried about VRM temperatures and whether these entry-level boards can handle a future CPU upgrade if I decide to go for a 7800X3D down the line. Ideally, I need a board with at least two M.2 slots for my storage and enough rear USB ports for my peripherals. Wi-Fi isn't a dealbreaker since I'm usually on Ethernet, but it would be a nice bonus.
I've also seen some chatter about long boot times on certain BIOS versions, which has me a bit hesitant. Has anyone here had a great experience with a specific B650 board that balances price and features well? What’s the absolute best value-for-money B650 motherboard right now that won't hold back a mid-range gaming setup?

In my experience, I totally get the worry about VRM temps!! Between your choices, the ASRock B650M Pro RS WiFi is basically the budget king at $140. The MSI PRO B650M-A WiFi is okay, but the ASRock has amazing M.2 options. Honestly, the VRMs handle a 7800X3D no problem and BIOS updates fixed those boot times... i think. It's lowkey the best value for money! gl!

- I've actually used the ASRock B650M Pro RS WiFi recently and it's basically the value king.
- Try Gigabyte B650 Gaming X AX V2 for more rear USB stuff.
- Enable 'Memory Context Restore' in BIOS to fix those boot times... it's highkey a lifesaver!! gl!

For your situation, I would suggest checking out the Gigabyte B650 Eagle AX. It is honestly the ultimate value king right now if you wanna find an ATX board that doesn't compromise. I've been using this model for a while and I'm sooo satisfied with the performance. It actually features three M.2 slots, which is a huge win for storage, and the VRMs are beefy enough that you wont have any issues swapping in a AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D down the road. Regarding those boot times you mentioned, it's basically a non-issue if you update to the latest BIOS and enable "Memory Context Restore." It makes a massive difference in daily use. This board is pretty much the sweet spot for a mid-range build because it gives you all the essentials without the "budget" feel. Hope that helps! gl!

Tbh if you look at the market data right now, MSI and ASUS are fighting hard in that mid-tier bracket. While everyone loves ASRock for budget, don't sleep on the MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk WiFi. It’s basically the gold standard for thermal performance in this gen and its VRMs are total overkill for a 7600X, meaning your future 7800X3D or even a 9000 series chip wont break a sweat. If you want something a bit more unique with crazy USB connectivity, the ASRock B650 LiveMixer is highkey underrated. Idk why more people don't talk about it, but it has like 14 rear USB ports which is insane for the price. There is also the ASUS TUF Gaming B650-Plus WiFi which feels way more premium than there entry-level Prime boards. Most of the early AM5 boot issues and memory training stuff is mostly patched now, so just make sure youre on the latest AGESA version. Honestly, choosing between these brands comes down to if you prefer MSI's BIOS layout or ASUS's aesthetics, but performance wise they’re all solid.
