Hi everyone! I'm looking to upgrade my setup as my current laptop is really struggling with large Photoshop files and complex Illustrator vectors. I'm doing more professional freelance work now, so I need something that can handle heavy multitasking without lagging. Color accuracy is a huge deal for me, so I’m specifically looking for a high-res screen with excellent DCI-P3 coverage. I’m debating between the new MacBook Pro or a powerful Windows workstation like the Dell XPS. My budget is around $2,500. Has anyone recently found a laptop that stays cool and responsive during long illustration sessions? What would you recommend for a professional design workflow?

Respectfully, I'd suggest the Lenovo Slim Pro 9i 14.5” Laptop, i7-13705H, RTX 4050, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD instead. My Mac failed me... this is way better value. TL;DR: Dont overpay!

I went through this last year when my old rig was literally dying under huge poster designs. Honestly, it was a nightmare! I spent weeks comparing the Apple 14-inch MacBook Pro Laptop M3 Pro chip with 12‑core CPU, 18‑core GPU: 14.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR Display, 18GB Unified Memory, 512GB SSD against the Dell XPS 15 9530 Laptop 15.6-inch OLED Touch Display, Intel Core i9-13900H, 32GB DDR5 RAM, 1TB SSD, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070. Here is the technical breakdown:
1. **Thermal Throttling**: My old PC got SO hot it throttled the CPU. The M3 Pro stays incredibly cool even during heavy Illustrator work... its fantastic!
2. **Display Tech**: The XDR is basically the gold standard for DCI-P3. I found that ur Dell OLED looks punchy, but the Mac is way more consistent for pro color.
3. **Architecture**: Dont let the specs fool you; the high memory bandwidth makes multitasking feel smoother than traditional rigs. Lesson learned: prioritize screen accuracy and thermals over raw specs. Totally changed my workflow! peace

Exactly what I was thinking

So, basically, dont make the mistake of buying a gaming laptop just cuz the specs look good on paper. In my experience, those screens are usually trash for color accuracy and they get LOUD. Honestly, if ur doing professional design, just go with the MacBook Pro. I've tried many setups over the years and the thermal management is way better than the XPS. Plus, that Retina display is industry standard for a reason. gl!
