Hey everyone! I'm finally putting together my first gaming PC, but my budget is really tight. I've heard AMD is the king of value, but I'm struggling to pick the right chip. I'm currently looking at two main paths:
I'll be pairing this with an RX 6600 for 1080p gaming. I really want to get the most frames per dollar without overspending on parts I don't strictly need yet. Which AMD CPU currently offers the absolute best performance for a strict budget build?
Quickly jumping in here. Spec-wise, the AMD Ryzen 5 5600 6-Core 12-Thread Processor is the clear winner for value. You save a ton by using cheaper DDR4 and B550 boards. If you are really counting pennies, check the AMD Ryzen 5 5500 6-Core 12-Thread Processor, but sticking with the 5600 prevents any PCIe 4.0 bottlenecks with your AMD Radeon RX 6600 8GB Graphics Card. It is basically the sweet spot for 1080p.
Just found this thread. Tbh I always scour for used bundles. I once snagged a AMD Ryzen 7 5700X 8-Core 16-Thread Processor cheap and it saved my budget big time...
Honestly, I've been building rigs for years and I've fallen into the future-proofing trap more than once. Early on, I spent way too much on the latest motherboard and socket thinking I'd upgrade the chip in a year or two. Life happened, and by the time I actually needed more power, that platform was dead and I had to buy a whole new setup anyway. I basically wasted money I could've used for a better build at the time. For a strict budget, I'd definitely take your first path. Staying on the older platform is the absolute king of value right now. You save so much on the motherboard and memory that you can just enjoy the build today. Trust me, the performance is great and you wont feel like you're missing out. Stick with the budget choice and enjoy the savings... it's the smarter play for a first timer, imo.
