My old rig is basically screaming whenever I try to render 4K projects lately. I have a client deadline next week so I need to buy something today. Im stuck between the 7950X and the 7900X, got about $600 to spend. Is the extra cash for the 7950X actually worth it for Premiere?

tbh if your rig is already screaming at you, dont cut corners now. If you can swing the extra cash, the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X 16-Core 32-Thread is the way to go for professional work. I moved from an older setup to this and the difference in 4K export times is massive. Heres a quick breakdown of why:

  • AMD Ryzen 9 7950X 16-Core 32-Thread: Those 16 cores are basically built for Premiere Pro exports and multitasking. It hits that sweet spot for speed.
  • AMD Ryzen 9 7900X 12-Core 24-Thread: It saves you money, sure, but those 4 missing cores actually matter when you are rendering long 4K sequences. Tbh, the 7950X is often on sale under $550 anyway, so it fits your $600 budget perfectly. Just make sure you have a beefy cooler because these things like to run hot... naturally.

  • I agree, but its actually pretty disappointing how much you pay for a small gain in timeline smoothness. The AMD Ryzen 9 7950X didnt feel that much faster than the AMD Ryzen 9 7900X while I was actually working. Exports are faster, sure, but 4K scrubbing is still kinda laggy. It just wasnt the magic bullet I expected for the extra cash.
