im honestly so fed up with my current setup it keeps stuttering during zoom calls and i feel like im losing my mind. i need to build a reliable office pc but my budget is super tight and im scared of buying the wrong parts.
im looking at amd because i heard they have better value right now but i dont know if i should go with an older 5000 series or try for something newer. what actually makes sense for just office work without overspending?
Totally agree with the 5700G call, it is an absolute beast for the price! But honestly if you want to save every penny and still get amazing performance, the AMD Ryzen 5 5600G 6-Core 3.9GHz AM4 CPU is fantastic. I built three office machines with these last month and they fly. Its basically the sweet spot for budget builds right now. One big thing tho, do NOT cheap out on the ram! Integrated graphics use your system memory so you need speed to keep things snappy. Grab something like G.Skill Ripjaws V 16GB DDR4 3600MHz CL16 at the very least. You will save enough on the 5600G compared to the 5700G to get a better motherboard or a bigger ssd. Itll run your calls and 50 tabs without breaking a sweat, seriously!
Stuttering during a Zoom call is literally the worst thing ever, so I totally feel your pain there. I really wanted to tell you to go with the newest AM5 platform, but unfortunately, the total cost of entry is still way too high for a tight budget build right now. I tried putting together a build with the AMD Ryzen 5 8500G 6-Core 12-Thread Processor with Radeon 740M Graphics for a client recently and it was not as good as expected because the motherboard and DDR5 ram prices just bloated the whole thing. Its kind of a letdown that the new stuff is so pricey for just basic office work. Honestly, just stick with the AMD Ryzen 5 5600G 6-Core 12-Thread Desktop Processor with Radeon Graphics. Its usually around $125 or $130 these days which fits your budget perfectly. I have built dozens of these for small offices and they just work. The 6 cores are plenty for heavy browser use and it wont break a sweat during video calls. You could look at the AMD Ryzen 7 5700G 8-Core 16-Thread Desktop Processor with Radeon Graphics but honestly for $150 it might be pushing it and you really dont need the extra two cores for multitasking in Excel or Zoom. Stick to the 5600G, grab some cheap DDR4, and youll be set by next weekend without losing your mind.
I’m very satisfied with the AMD Ryzen 7 5700G 8-Core 3.8GHz AM4 CPU. It’s super reliable for multitasking and:
