Honestly, if youre looking at professional 4K workflows, especially with 10-bit footage in DaVinci Resolve, the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X 16-Core 32-Thread is the only way to go. I made the jump from a lower core count build earlier this year and the difference in timeline smoothness is night and day. While the AMD Ryzen 7 7700X 8-Core 16-Thread is a great gaming chip, it starts to sweat once you add multiple layers, noise reduction, or heavy color grading. Resolve is pretty unique because it utilizes both the GPU and CPU heavily, but those 16 cores on the 7950X really help with the heavy lifting during export and when youre working in the Fusion tab. One thing to keep in mind though... even with a beastly CPU, 10-bit 4:2:2 H.264 or H.265 footage is notoriously hard to decode on AMD because they lack the specific hardware acceleration that Intels QuickSync provides. Youll still want a beefy GPU to help out, and definitely dont skimp on memory. I personally use G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo 64GB DDR5-6000 CL30 and it has been rock solid. Basically, if your budget allows it, the 7950X will save you so much frustration. Its just a productivity monster compared to the 7700X for video work.
