honestly so fed up with my old intel setup it keeps freezing every time i try to open more than two chrome tabs and im just ready to switch to something else entirely because this lag is actually killing my soul. im finally pulling the trigger on an amd build because everyone says the value is just way better and im honestly so excited to actually have a pc that doesnt feel like it was made in 2012!! i have about 200 bucks maybe 250 if i push it specifically for the cpu because i need to save some cash for a decent gpu later this month since i really want to get into some actual gaming and maybe some light video editing for my brothers youtube channel.
i need something that can handle:
im looking at the ryzen 5 5600 since it seems like the king of budget builds but then i see the 5600x or even the 7600 and i get so confused if the extra money is actually worth it or if im just paying for a letter. i live near a micro center so i might be able to snag a bundle deal if i go this weekend but i need to know what to look for before i get distracted by all the shiny parts. is am4 still the move for a budget king or should i just suck it up and go am5 now so i dont have to swap the motherboard later on? my brain is kind of melting from all the benchmarks ive been watching on youtube lol...
Honestly if you are near a Micro Center you should definitely try to jump on the AM5 train now. I switched to the AMD Ryzen 5 7600 6-Core 12-Thread Processor recently and ive been so satisfied with how it handles multitasking... it really doesnt break a sweat even with a ton of tabs open. Since you mentioned wanting a socket that wont die soon, AM5 is the way to go because AMD is gonna support it for years. The AMD Ryzen 5 5600 6-Core 12-Thread Processor is still a budget beast but you'll be stuck on old DDR4 ram. Quick tip tho: look for those Micro Center bundles that include the mobo and ram because they are basically legendary for value. Moving to the newer platform now saves you a massive headache later when you want to upgrade again.
To add to the point above: going AM4 now is unfortunately a dead end and the AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D 8-Core 16-Thread Desktop Processor doesnt even include a cooler which is a letdown tho. What motherboard are you actually looking at? If you want actual longevity you should really skip the old socket entirely and go AM5. TL;DR: AM4 is a dead end and better chips lack coolers. Go AM5.
