ive spent years testing different boards for long writing sessions and basically, it comes down to the switch type and board build quality. while membrane boards are generally quiet, they often feel mushy which isnt great for comfort over long periods. high-end silent mechanical switches or topre boards are actually the sweet spot for writers.
- tactile feedback: you want to feel the key press without the loud click to maintain rhythm.
- actuation force: lighter switches (around 45g) prevent finger fatigue after thousands of words.
- ergonomics: split designs or tenting help avoid repetitive strain issues by keeping wrists neutral. some solid options id recommend based on my own setup:
- Logitech MX Keys S Wireless Keyboard is probably the most reliable low-profile scissor switch board out there. its super quiet and the spherical key dishing feels natural.
- Leopold FC660C 66key Topre Electro-Static Capacitive Keyboard is expensive but the topre switches feel like typing on clouds. its incredibly quiet for how premium it feels.
