Hey everyone! I’m looking to level up our dev workflow. Lately, my team has been feeling bogged down by manual boilerplate and writing unit tests, and it's really slowing our sprints. I’ve been using GitHub Copilot, which is great, but I’m curious if there are more specialized AI tools for things like automated documentation or even PR summaries that you’d actually swear by. We mostly work in VS Code and need something that won't break the bank for a small team. There are so many options popping up daily that it’s getting a bit overwhelming to filter through! What specific AI tools have genuinely saved you the most time in your daily coding routine?

Adding my two cents... I went through this last year. Honestly, I had high hopes for Tabnine Pro but it was kinda disappointing for our budget. We switched to Sourcegraph Cody Free and its context-aware unit tests literally saved our sprints. I also tried Bito AI 10-User Team Plan for docs... way better than manual. It's reallyyy tough filtering through the hype but these actually stick tho. gl!

For your situation, I feel u... manual boilerplate is literally the worst lol. Ngl, I'm kinda new to this but Mintlify is a lifesaver for docs and has a solid free tier. Also, CodiumAI PR-Agent is great for PR summaries and wont break the bank since it's open source. Honestly, maybe just try the free version of Cursor AI Code Editor? It basically replaces VS Code and feels sooo much faster than Copilot. gl!

Just catching up on this thread. To be honest, I've been pretty let down by the tools I've tried for PR automation and docs lately. Unfortunately, most of them were just not as good as expected. One tool I got for documentation was constantly hallucinating details about our logic, which is honestly more work to fix than just writing it myself. It's been a bit of a bummer since I'm really trying to prioritize reliability for our team. I had issues with the accuracy of the unit tests too. They looked okay at first, but they were testing things that didn't even exist... super risky if you aren't paying 100% attention. My current setup is a bit better, but I'm still keeping a very close eye on it because I don't fully trust it yet. Just wanted to share that so you don't get discouraged if the first few things you try end up being total duds. You'll get there, just gotta keep testing them cautiously.

Quick reply while I have a sec! > What specific AI tools have genuinely saved you the most time in your daily coding routine? Honestly I totally get the struggle with the boilerplate tax... earlier this year I was basically losing half my day just writing repetitive setup code and it was seriously soul-crushing lol. I'm pretty cautious about subs because those $20/seat fees add up SO fast for a small team and I hate wasting money. My current setup actually uses a lightweight extension that handles PR descriptions by just scanning my diffs, and its saved me so much brain power at the end of a sprint. I mean its not perfect and you gotta double-check the output but for the cost its a no-brainer. I also started using a local runner for some unit test generation just to keep costs at zero, and while it was a bit of a learning curve to set up it was reallyyy worth it to keep our budget under control while still speeding things up. I would suggest looking for tools that let you "bring your own key" if ur worried about price... just make sure to be careful with privacy settings on the free ones!! peace
